Improving Mental Health sensitively and effectively

If you feel something is affecting you in your life right now that you may not feel comfortable sharing with others, therapy could help. Therapy is a space in which to express those feelings. I’m Daniela Nicol, and my role as your therapist is to accept you as you are without judgement and to always strive to be real with you. You will then hopefully feel safe enough to share with me how you are truly feeling rather than how you ‘should’ be. By exploring what is going for you right now we can get a better understanding of where your feelings stem from. They may originate from something that happened to you in the past, perhaps even as far back as your childhood. If feelings such as anger, fear, guilt and shame, played a role at some point in your life, they may still be affecting you today. Becoming more aware of why you feel the way you do and how it affects your behaviour means you can reflect on how these emotions could be affecting your relationships and family dynamics. You may realise that there are some feelings you don’t have to feel anymore, you can now choose how to feel. And you don’t have to do it alone. Together, we will support you in finding more positive ways of managing your feelings and being in harmony with yourself.

You may ask how long will it take? And the answer is that it is different for everybody, there is no set time in which this awareness happens. In my experience, mindset changes start to occur after five to six consecutive sessions, obviously depending on the severity of the issues being worked through. I will provide you with the emotional support you feel you need and shall leave it up to you to decide when you’ve got what you want out of therapy.

Working with adult and young clients to help them feel more in control of their lives is a privilege for me. Over the years I have worked with a variety of issues such as setting boundaries, people-pleasing, low self-esteem, relationship issues, cross-cultural implications, trauma-related disorders such as PTSD, complex PTSD, anxiety, bullying, depression, low self-confidence, eating disorders and many more.

For a free and confidential consultation to see if therapy could be for you, just get in touch by sending an email to mind.matters.gh@gmail.com, which only I have access to.

Therapy - what is it?

Therapy takes place in a safe space where clients can express difficult thoughts and feelings. I, as the therapist accept the client as they are, without judgement, and always strive to be real with them. Through self-exploration an understanding develops of where the client’s feelings stem from, possibly as far back as their childhood. Emotions (feelings) such as anger, fear, guilt and shame experienced often and intensely over extended periods of time are indicators of bad mental health. I support my clients in finding more positive ways of managing their thoughts and feelings. With higher self-awareness and inner resilience clients are able to change the way they interact with themselves and others. This in turn results in improved relationships and enhanced emotional well-being.

All the best
